Ontario (dbTechno) - Officials for the Canadian health and environmental ministries announced on Friday that they are working on a ban of baby bottles which contain the chemical bisphenol-a (BPA). The ban will likely be introduced before the end of 2008.Earlier last week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services put out a reports stating that BPA is a toxic chemical, which can cause harm.

The report released stated that BPA can cause developmental problems, and neurological problems in infants and toddlers, as well as other health problems. Children 18 months and younger are at the greatest risk.

BPA is found in many baby bottles, as well as the lining of food cans containing baby food.

Canada is now taking steps to ban all baby bottles and products which contain BPA.

Following the announcement by the Canadian government on Friday, Wal-Mart and Sears have begun to remove all BPA products from their stores in Canada.

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer, a Democrat from New York, has stated he will introduce a bill on Monday calling for a ban on all products containing BPA in the U.S.

The bill will apparently give plastic packaging companies time to find alternatives to BPA.
