Christening for Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest grandchild
LONDON (AFP) - Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest grandchild was christened Saturday at a private ceremony attended by family and friends at Windsor Castle, royal officials said.
The four-month-old son of the 81-year-old monarch’s youngest son, Prince Edward, and his wife, Sophie, was named James Alexander Philip Theo. He will take the title Viscount Severn.
Edward and Sophie, known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex, have a daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, who was born prematurely in 2003. Her mother fell dangerously ill soon afterwards.
James was born by Caesarean section without complications on December 17 last year. He is the first male grandchild for the queen since third-in-line to the throne Prince Harry 23 years ago and eighth in the line of succession.
