Malt-O-Meal Recall and Salmonella

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were four large outbreaks of Salmonella infections in the United States during 2007. And unfortunately, there is another one right now that may be linked to cereal from Malt-O-Meal unsweetened Puffed Rice Cereals and unsweetened Puffed Wheat Cereals.Twenty-one people have gotten sick with Salmonella symptoms in eleven states in this current outbreak, prompting a recall of the Malt-O-Meal products.

Since many parents hear about these types of food recalls, just like last year’s peanut butter recalls, after their child has already eaten some of the recalled and potentially contaminated food, it is important to learn about common Salmonella symptoms so that you can recognize if your children get a Salmonella infection.
