Player Movement 2006

nbaThirty NBA teams took the first step in retooling their rosters for next year’s title chase, drafting the best young talent available in the 2006 Draft. Now, teams turn their focus to free agency and trades to fill holes and needs.

Big Ben the clock is still in London, but Big Ben the player seems to be moving. An unrestricted free agent, Ben Wallace met with the Chicago Bulls on July 1, the first day that Wallace and the remainder of this year’s free agent crop could begin negotiating deals. Contracts can not be signed until July 12.

While the deal hasn’t been inked yet, it seems all but done that Wallace will cause opponents to “Fear the Fro” while wearing Chicago’s red, white and black next season. Click and Roll chimes in on the reactions to Big Ben’s relocation.

Wallace isn’t the only big name rumored to be changing uniforms. Peja Stojakovic nesting with the Hornets? Looks that way. Speedy Claxton kicking the Hawks into high-gear? Appears so.

Aside from free agency, blockbuster trades will invariably cause players to file change-of-address cards this summer, as a number of names are being floated in trade scenarios. Among the biggest is Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson, who, if you believe the dailies, could be headed to the Atlantic Division rival Celtics. The Bucks and Raptors already pulled off a T.J. Ford for Charlie Villanueva switcheroo.
