Host of ‘You Asked for It’ Dies
He hosted the popular “You Asked For It” television show. Singer Jack Smith has died the age of 92. He had leukemia.
Smith worked for many years in radio, but is best remembered as the host of the ABC series in 1958. He also hosted a syndicated version in the ’70s.
The show invited viewers to send in suggestions for unusual things they wanted to see on the air, like people with odd talent or seeing the inside vault at Fort Knox.
He picked up the “Smiling” Jack Smith moniker after becoming a solo performer on “The Prudential Hour,” a popular musical show on CBS.
Many fans commented that Smith sounded like he was smiling when he sang.
