Seagate Momentus 5400.3 2.5″ Notebook PC Disc Drive
Seagate announced the availability of Seagate Momentus 5400.3, the world’s first 2.5″ notebook PC disc drive implementing perpendicular recording technology, in capacities up to 160 gigs.
One of the major advantages with perpendicular recording is that it stands data bits on end on the disk rather than flat to the surface like in traditional longitudinal recording. This leads to better performance without increasing spin speed by allowing more bits to pass under the drive head in the same amount of time. The technology also improves reliability offering higher resistance to thermal decay.
The Momentus apparently operates with a 4,200-rpm power efficiency which you can experience through the extended battery life. And best of all, Seagate has packed 132 Gbits per square inch - one of the highest levels of drive capacity.
Capable of withstanding 350 Gs of operating shock and 900 Gs of non-operating shock to protect drive data, more info about the Momentus 5400.3 2.5″ notebook disc drive is available from Seagate’s website.
