AMD To Intel: You VIIV, We Live!

After the war of the processors, get ready for the battle of the brands, because AMD is determined to counterattack the new Intel rebranding strategy. According to IDG News Service, AMD will announce an alliance with set-top box chip maker STMicroelectronics and unveil the AMD Live! brand at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Hal Speed, marketing architect at AMD, said that actually the companies want to make it easier for consumers to blend content available over cable and satellite broadcast networks with content delivered over the internet to PCs, he said.

But those fans who already are ready to spend their money on AMD’s Live! Branded PCs will have to wait until the middle of this year. Intel has already announced during last year the VIIV platform, which is regarded as one of the reasons of Intel rebranding strategy. Also, according to IDG News Service, Intel’s marketing budget exceeds AMD’s.

So, after Pentium versus Athlon stories get ready for some VIIV versus Live! battles!
