Hammacher Schlemmer’s $4K iPod tube speakers

Hammacher Schlemer is offering up a premium speaker system for those who want some good old-fashioned analog sound to go along with their iPod, or any other audio device.  The $4,000 tube-based system promises “luxurious warmth and clarity” as well as an amplifier to smooth out distortions in digital recordings and quality loss from compressed audio like MP3s.  Although if you’re enough of an audiophile to be dropping $4k on a speaker system, we doubt you’re listening to compressed audio to begin with — standard conundrum, right? And don’t plan on packing it along with your iPod on your next trip, this gear weighs in at a hefty 42 pounds.
